    Serial to USB cable

Does USB to Serial cable work for upgrading the stb from the rear.?
also, I noticed that the cable is male and so is the back of the stb. would a female to female adaptor work, or do I need the cables, like null or straight rs232.

If so, which brand is it recommended. I have windows 7, does it windows 7 allow for this.

Im trying to upgrade a Skyview Max 2000pvr and Viewsat PVR 7000.

The usb to serial adapter will work when properly setup. The adapter will provide a straight through rs232 serial connection and a null modem serial cable will be needed between the receiver and adapter. Get one that has a prolific chip set.

Very nice. Ill look for that.

Another question. The small adapter. That is rs232. Female to female. Could that be used instead of a straight cable. Since its connecting stb to the serial connector of the cable.

That would be fine if the receiver required a straight through serial connection but they don't.

Have you heard of a cable called plugable. It has a prolific chipset in it. I also have another one. Parallex with a ftdi chip.

I can't make any of them work. Is there something else that has to be done.
